Man in the Maze is a traditional symbol of the Tohono O'odham people, an Indigenous nation of the Sonoran Desert region in the southwestern part of North America. Associated with the figure of I'itoi in Tohono O'odham cosmology, the symbol represents the journey of life, personal growth, and spiritual transformation. Its winding path toward the center symbolizes the experiences, turning points, and processes of inner development encountered throughout an individual's life. This sculpture is part of a body of work in which I reinterpret labyrinth symbols from different cultures through three-dimensional sculptural forms. Historically represented on two-dimensional surfaces, the Man in the Maze symbol is presented here as a sculptural form, inviting viewers to explore new perceptual and conceptual relationships.
